ATLANTA / MAY 2, 2023/ BPALiveWire - Dr. Alveda King and the Alveda King Ministries urge Americans who understand the importance of girls' sports to submit comments to oppose the Biden Administration's proposed changes to Title IX. The proposed changes would allow biological males to play sports, opposite biological females, creating unfair standards and jeopardizing the integrity of women's sports.
Title IX, enacted in 1972, prohibits discrimination based on sex in any educational program or activity that receives federal funding. This includes athletics programs at schools and universities. The proposed changes would allow biological males who identify as female to compete in women's sports, even though biological differences give biological males a physical advantage.
Female athletes have worked to gain equal opportunities in sports, and this proposed change would reverse the progress made over the five decades. Elite female athletes and young girls who pursue sports for leisure and recreation would be playing on rigged fields if biological males are allowed to compete with biological females.
The Biden Administration is accepting public comments on the proposed changes to Title IX until May 15. There are several ways you can submit comments. You may go directly to the federal register. You may also visit Independent Women's Forum at www.iwf.org.
