January 3, 2022/ BPALiveWire/ Damar Hamlin, a defensive back for the Buffalo Bills, collapsed on the field during Monday night's football game against the Cincinnati Bengals. Hamlin was rushed to the University of Cincinnati Hospital, where he remains in critical condition.
While the nature of Hamlin's injury remains unclear, the collective prayers of sports fans around the world have been offered to the 24-year-old Pennsylvania native. Evidence of the support comes from the increase in donations to a go-fund-me page that Hamlin formed to help low-income children in his hometown. Donations range from $5,500 Carpet Man Flooring to $30 from Anonymous fans.
"What happened to Damar Hamlin shocked the entire sports world. We see these hard hits every day," said Dorian Francis, host of the Sports Fanatic Podcast, "So to see a healthy 24-year-old collapse in front of your eyes, that was devastating. You could see it in his teammates' eyes. I think people want to do something while they wait and pray, so donating to his charity is one action that a lot of people are taking."
