Twenty-three years ago on September 11, I was a college professor. As I sat at my desk grading assignments, a newsflash appeared on my screen, the Twin Towers in New York City were under attack.
The memory of my parents' home being bombed — Rev. A.D. and Dr. Naomi King — flashed before my eyes. Triggered by the past and facing this current disaster, I realized that America was once again in crisis. Many brave people lost their lives that day, along with family members and loved ones.
As we commemorate 9/11, it's clear that America remains at a crossroads. We face ongoing chaos—terrorism, abortion, attacks on our children and families, and other acts of inhumanity occurring within our nation.
While we remember 9/11, let us also remember that God is alive and ready to help us. As we repent, forgive, and seek answers, I hear the voice of my grandfather, Daddy King: "Make it plain. Thank God for what we have left."
Let us remember in prayer: "If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray, turn from their wicked ways, and seek my face, then I will hear from heaven, forgive their sins, and heal their land."
May God help America to pray again.
