WASHINGTON / OCTOBER 3 / BPALiveWire -FBI Director Kash Patel detailed the results of a three-month nationwide law enforcement operation aimed at curbing violent crime, announcing thousands of arrests and major seizures in an interview that will air Monday night with broadcaster Armstrong Williams.
The initiative, known as Operation Summer Heat, was carried out in partnership with state and local police across dozens of U.S. cities, including Chicago, St. Louis, Memphis, New Orleans, New York, Los Angeles and Anchorage, Alaska.
According to Patel, the operation resulted in nearly 8,700 arrests across 55 FBI field offices. Agents also seized more than 2,200 firearms and 421 kilograms of fentanyl, an amount federal officials say could be lethal to over 50 million people. Nearly 1,000 children were also rescued from trafficking, abuse and violent crime networks, he said.
“Everybody knows you can’t walk around these cities anymore. People are getting shot. Kids are getting shot. Drugs are killing our youth,” Patel told Williams during the broadcast. “We need to do what the FBI does best — crush violent crime.”
Patel credited the scale of the operation to close coordination with state and local law enforcement agencies. “When we sync together with the FBI, that is the most dynamic police force on God’s green earth,” he said.
The FBI director also described the effort as part of his broader strategy to leave what he called a “footprint of security” in communities across the country.
