David Byrd Confirmed as Prince George’s County Director, Office of Central Services


David J. Byrd was recently confirmed by the Prince George's County Council as Director of the Prince George’s County Office of Central Services, a key operational arm of local government. Confirmed in late March 2026, Byrd brings more than three decades of leadership experience across federal, state, and county roles.


The Office of Central Services oversees critical infrastructure and support systems, including facilities management, capital construction, procurement support, and fleet operations. The agency manages more than 4,000 vehicles used by multiple county departments and is responsible for maintaining and upgrading county buildings and public safety facilities.


Byrd previously served as National Director of the Minority Business Development Agency and held senior roles at the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. His appointment signals a focus on operational efficiency, modernization, and strategic investment in public infrastructure across Prince George’s County.

John Gibbs to Lead Heritage Foundation's Thomas A. Roe Institute for Economic Policy Studies


The Heritage Foundation has named John Gibbs as director of its Thomas A. Roe Institute for Economic Policy Studies, the organization announced April 16.


The Roe Institute leads Heritage’s work on domestic economic policy, including housing regulation trade and financial markets.


Gibbs brings more than 20 years of experience across government private industry and nonprofit leadership. He most recently served as principal deputy assistant secretary for policy development and research at the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, where he helped guide research and evaluate major housing policy initiatives.


During the Trump administration, Gibbs served as acting assistant secretary for community planning and development at HUD, overseeing an $8 billion portfolio supporting homelessness programs community development and disaster recovery.


He holds a master’s degree from Harvard University and a bachelor’s degree from Stanford University.

Erica Schwartz Nominated Director of CDC


Donald Trump has nominated Erica Schwartz to serve as director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the White House announced April 16.


Schwartz is a former deputy surgeon general and retired rear admiral with more than two decades of service across the U.S. Public Health Service, Navy and Coast Guard. She has held leadership roles in public health medicine and federal health policy.


If confirmed by the Senate, Schwartz would take over an agency that has faced extended leadership turnover and internal challenges over the past year. The CDC has operated under a series of acting leaders following the dismissal of its previous director.


Schwartz’s background includes experience in pandemic response and federal health research, positioning her to guide the agency’s efforts on disease prevention and public health policy.
