ATLANTA / April 28, 2026 / BPALiveWire — The U.S. Department of Agriculture and the Georgia Department of Agriculture will host an Urban Agriculture Event on May 1, 2026, at the Atlanta University Center. The program will run from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 660 Atlanta Student Movement Blvd SW and is designed specifically for students across the HBCU campus community.
Convened by Bruce LeVell, Director of Public-Private Partnerships at the U.S. Department of Agriculture, and Georgia Agriculture Commissioner Tyler Harper, the event will highlight pathways into farming, agribusiness, food systems, and land ownership, with a focus on engaging the next generation of agricultural leaders.
The program will feature industry experts, Georgia agricultural leaders, and USDA staff providing guidance on farming, farm and land ownership, agribusiness opportunities, and related resources. Students will also participate in interactive roundtable discussions with farmers, producers, and industry professionals, gaining firsthand insight into agriculture and food systems. Attendees will engage in educational sessions, breakout discussions, and direct interaction with agricultural leaders and practitioners.
The event is part of a broader effort to expand awareness of agriculture as a viable and rewarding career path, particularly among Generation Z. By bringing together federal and state resources with industry and educational partners, the event aims to provide practical tools, career insight, and meaningful connections for students interested in agriculture and food systems.
The Atlanta University Center, a historic consortium of historically Black colleges and universities, provides a central location for outreach to students and young professionals.
This event is by invitation only for students of the HBCU campus community and is not open to the general public.
